Jeffrey Mathias, PhD, LMSW is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working with adults and adolescents at Rose Hill. Jeffrey often works with people when they feel most stuck: when it becomes difficult to dream of a better world, when one repeats the same mistakes despite knowing better, when old joys become worn out. Through careful and attentive listening, he hopes to create a relationship with clients in which the act of speaking freely opens up new possibilities of being.
Jeffrey brings warmth, curiosity, and humor to his practice as a psychotherapist. He has worked with people from a range of backgrounds, from asylum seekers and refugees to incarcerated adolescents. Jeffrey enjoys working psychoanalytically with people who are sometimes described as neurodivergent.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Jeffrey was an academic and has published widely on the history of psychoanalysis and psychiatry. He enjoys working with scholars, artists, and other creative people navigating the difficulties of cultural production amidst institutional precarity. Jeffrey has previously trained at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and the Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis in London.
