Louis Levy, MSW-I

Clinical Social Work Intern

Louis is a clinical social work graduate trainee pursuing a MSW degree at Smith College School for Social Work. Prior to pursuing training in psychotherapy, Louis worked as a tenant organizer and in crisis support for people experiencing intimate partner violence. He also has clinical experience providing counseling in a high school setting. Louis currently works with children, adolescents, and adults. He has a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing interpersonal and intrapsychic difficulties, navigating issues of gender and sexuality, coming-of-age, and life transitions, or are struggling with substance use, mania, depression, and anxiety. They welcome clients for whom coming to therapy may be challenging and appreciate the bravery it takes to engage in the therapeutic process. Louis obtained a BA in American Studies and Sociology from Reed College.

Louis’s background in psychodynamic theory, sociology, and social movement work inform his belief that the exploration of the individual is inseparable from the political and social worlds we inhabit. In practice, this looks like examining the here-and-now while paying attention to past experiences and social location. Through this expansive approach, we can access the liberatory potential of therapeutic work. This exploration allows for a greater understanding of the self and opens up new possibilities. Louis strives to create a therapeutic space that allows for curiosity, self-expression, humor, and creativity.
