Maysam Taher, PhD
LP Intern
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working with adults and adolescents at Rose Hill Psychological Services, and a psychoanalytic candidate at Pulsion: The International Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics. I work with people who are seeking therapy during critical junctures in their lives, and who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, inhibitions in creative pursuits, or who grapple with questions of acculturation and belonging. I welcome people from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ individuals, those living between places and cultures, and bilingual or multilingual individuals who wish to be understood in Arabic, French, Italian, and/or Spanish. I help patients carve out an open yet protected space to think and speak about their difficulties, away from the immense speed and pressures of everyday life. Traversing one’s history and articulating what was previously unsaid and unknown can relieve anguish, increase engagement with one’s life, and feel thrilling or even humorous at times.
I hold a PhD in the humanities from New York University, and I am a scholar and teacher who has lived in multiple places. I have taught courses on the theory and history of border formation, alienation and estrangement in literature and film, and the relationship between the archive and the writing of history.
