Vita Emery, LMSW

Psychotherapist

Vita Emery is an LMSW with a PhD in philosophy. During her MSW at Columbia University she completed an internship at the William Alanson White Institute. There she worked with adults in one-on-one psychotherapy. She also learned about and engaged in play and art therapies for children. Before attending Columbia, she spent a decade of her life immersed in academic life at Fordham University and her training in philosophy, particularly existentialism and narrative theory, has had a profound influence over her work as a psychotherapist. Vita specializes in working with individuals who are dealing with questions about their identity, their sense of meaning, and their overarching life path. She has published on the emotion of shame and its impact on identity formation. Additional areas of interest include mindfulness and the connection between mind and body within therapeutic spaces.
